Heavy rain continued to lash various parts of Ahmedabad even on Monday, for the second consecutive day, throwing normal life out of gear. Heavy rain has been predicted for the state in the next two or three days.

Even as several parts of the city remained waterlogged, especially in the walled city areas, traffic jams continued to be a common complain in various parts of the city. Heavy rain and water logging also ensured that several primary schools in the walled city area remained closed on Monday.

Indian Meteorological Department officials here said that there have been predictions of heavy rainfall across Gujarat, including arid areas of the Kutch region. Officials said that certain isolated areas of the state were expected to receive very heavy rain.

The rain has come as a welcome relief not only for the citizens but has resulted in filling up of some dams. The two days of rain in the month end have added 55.04 million cubic metres of water to the state’s dams.

The state had not received good rain the whole of August and there were predictions on the state being rain deficit by more than 30 per cent. But the heavy rain in last 48 hours have reduced the deficiency considerably.
