Property worth Rs 5.35 cr stolen in 2009, says SP

Speaking to presspersons on Wednesday, he said property worth Rs 5,35,04,350 have been stolen during 2009. Property stolen in 2007 —Rs 3,01,92,800, in 2008—Rs 4,19,92,800. Property worth Rs 1,06,72,708 have been recovered in 2009 till November 30.

In 2007, property worth Rs 87,46,103 have been recovered while in 2008, property worth Rs 1,91,90,553 have been recovered. Property worth Rs 99,24,002 have been returned to complainants in 2009, while in 2008, property worth Rs 1,10,50,059 have been returned. SP said total number of accused arrested in the property offences in 2009 is 176, in 2008—499, in 2007—387. About 5,802 accused have been arrested related to all other cases in the district up to November 30. In 2008—6145 have been arrested while in 2007—5863 have been arrested.

The total number of MOB (modus operandi) card-holders in Dakshina Kannada is 8,645. As a preventive measures, the number of arrested under 107 CrPC is 279, under 109 CrPC is 278, under 110 CrPC is 278, under 71 KP Act is 468.

About 13 criminals have been booked under the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Slum Grabbers Act, 1985.

As a public centric programmes, police department has started FIR help desk in the district for the registration of FIR in SP office. The response to FIR help desk has been encouraging and receives atleast one or two cases daily, he said.

The police department has also started student contact programme wherein police officers will provide information to students on various crimes, prevention of crimes. The department has also started police youth clubs in the district. Apart from this, online complaint registration facilities have been provided along with IVRS complaint systems. The district police website has been launched. Dial 100 system with Rakshak vehicle has been introduced in five places. Beat system has been revamped and new beat system has been introduced.
