Hafta racket busted; 3 held

2 accused are said to be KRV members

Speaking to presspersons, Superintendent of Police Dr A S Rao said the arrested are Jayananda Ganiga (41), Chandrahas K Moolya and Abdul Lathif. Jayananda Ganiga and Chandrahasa Moolya are said to be the members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and Ganiga is the district President of Samarasene of KRV.

He said the trio were making threat calls to two businessmen in Mangalore and Mulky, demanding ransom from them. In fact, the Hitendra Sha of Mangalore had registered complaint in this regard on December 14.

Based on a tip off, North Police Station Inspector Vinay Gaonkar along with other police personnel succeeded in nabbing two accused along with omni car at Averi Junction in Mangalore on Tuesday night. The police seized Omni car, 5 mobile phones, 3 sim cards from them. The total value of the property was Rs 2,53,000. On interrogation, they revealed the name of another accused Abdul Lathif, who was arrested at K C Nagara on Wednesday morning. Police have seized passport and property worth Rs 51,000 from Lathif.

The accused Jayananda Ganiga is the resident of Hosabettu in Manjeshwar of Kasargod district and is rowdy sheeter and has connection with underworld. He was involved in five cases including two murder, one attempt to murder and another case under Arms Act in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Police are also planning to implement Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA) on Ganiga.

SP said “we are also looking out for the sim card suppliers. If the suppliers had supplied sim cards without any verification of documents, then case will be filed against them also.”
A case has been registered. Investigation is on.
