The JD(S) on Saturday, held a preliminary meeting on forming the core committee of the party.

Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and senior party leader M C Nanaiah met at Gowda’s residence in the city. It was finally decided that the party will form a core committee of nine to 11 members to give direction to the party in the State and outside.

Speaking after the meeting, Kumaraswamy said that the leadership will announce a list of members in two to three days.

Those shortlisted for the committee are: former ministers M C Nanaiah, Leeladevi Prasad and K Srinivas Gowda, former MLA Bandeppa Kashempur, MLC Basavaraj Horatti, MLAs G T Deve Gowda, D Nagarajaiah, Cheluvarayaswamy, B B Ningaiah and Y S V Datta.

On whether the Gowda family will stay away from the core committee, Kumaraswamy said: “We will ensure that either me or H D Revanna is on the panel. There will be only one representation from the family.” He said that apart from loyalty to the party, the JD(S) was looking to nominate those leaders who have experience, authority and are free to travel across the State to strengthen the party.

“Prominence will be given for leaders from Hyderabad Karnataka, Mumbai Karnataka and coastal Karnataka, where our leadership is weak,” said Kumaraswamy.
