'Lokayukta SP' taken to custody

The Kamakshipalya police have taken custody of an inmate in Dharwad jail who allegedly demanded money from government officials claiming himself to be a Superintendent of Police with Lokayukta.

According to police, Murugappa Ninagappa Kumbar, a native of Sadalaga in Belgaum district, was recently arrested by Navalgunda police, Dharwad. He is wanted in 13 cases.  

Police said that an engineer with Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited had lodged a complaint with the Kamakshipalya police recently, stating that a person claiming to be a SP of Lokayukta, called him on his mobile phone and threatened to raid his house if he did not deposit Rs 1.5 lakh in his (caller’s) bank account. The caller even gave the bank account number.

Kumbar was produced before the court and remanded in police custody.
