Kota (South) apathetic about byelection

Last Updated 07 September 2014, 19:20 IST

The electorate of Kota (South) constituency, which goes to polls on September 13, has so far shown little or scant interest in the by-election.

Political leaders fear this may result in a unusual voting percentage, which could play havoc with the final outcome.

“There is no election craze among the people of Kota (South) this time. This is also one of the reasons why senior party leaders from New Delhi have not been invited for rallies. Party workers will have to play an important role in this election by motivating people to come out and cast their vote,” said a local BJP leader.

The people are busy with routine work and are of the view that this by-election is not going to make any political difference as the state and Union government are already in place.  “Whichever party wins, it will not make any difference.

The state and Union government will continue to do their work, irrespective of the results. Since the BJP is the ruling party in the state, it has a fair chance. So there is no charm in this election,” said Deepa Sharma, assistant professor at the government college here.

The youth seem to be more interested in the university elections. “In the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, people were crazy about Narendra Modi. Now the dust has settled and nothing new or great is going to happen in these by-polls.

Rather we found college elections more entertaining,” said Kritika Sharma, an engineering student.
