'Institutions misleading govt will lose minority tag'

Educational institutions misleading the government by producing old certificates to claim minority status risk losing their affiliation, Binish Thomas, regional co-ordinator for National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, has warned.

In an official release issued here on Friday, the regional co-ordinator has stated that a few institutions were misleading the government by not providing proper information. Legal action would be initiated against such institutions. Action would also be taken against institutions which do not take into account children’s safety.

Schools which do not provide admissions to deserving candidates from poor economic background will also risk losing affiliation. The regional office would also write to the Commission to cancel affiliation of such minority schools where sexual harassment against students are reported, he added.
