Council demands execution of Netravathi diversion project

The issue came up for discussion when independent member YA Narayanaswamy raised a question regarding rejuvenation of tanks in Kolar district. Leader of Opposition V S Ugrappa said that the S M Krishna government had released Rs 2.5 crore to conduct the survey for the project. The government should take necessary steps to complete the survey at the earliest. “It would be enough if Chikballapur, Kolar, Tumkur and Chitradurga districts get water from Netravathi river between June and November every year,” he said.

The project had been opposed by many in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. Home minister Dr Acharya said he would not oppose the project as long as it did not affect the water requirements in the region.

He assured the House that the government would take an appropriate decision after taking opinions from people from all sections into consideration.
