Modi may celebrate birthday with Xi in Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to celebrate his 64th birthday on September 17 in Gujarat and the event could turn into a diplomatic and public relation exercise as he decides to host  Chinese President Xi Jinping in the state.

Modi is expected to arrive in Gujarat to seek blessings from his  94-year-old mother, Hiraba, who resides in Gandhinagar. Modi, it may be recalled, used to visit his mother on his birthdays even when he was the chief minister of Gujarat.

Gujarat government sources said that the Chinese president would arrive in Ahmedabad on September 17 and visit the Sabarmati Ashram.

Official sources further revealed that Xi could be accompanied by business delegation for signing Memorandum of Understandings with the Gujarat government.

As per details, one of the agreements to be signed during Xi’s visit is a 10 sq km industrial park near Ahmedabad which would attract investments to the tune of over $1 billion.

The main focus of this park will  be on manufacturing of equipment of power transmission and generation. The park would be a smart city with banks, hotels, schools, recreational centres and other facilities.

The state  government,  however,  is  yet to confirm if the two leaders would hold any formal talks in Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar.
