Decked with a doodle

Doodling is no longer restricted only to the last pages of dog-eared notebooks. Thanks to ‘Doodle Inc’, which was started by three graduates of fashion design, it is now done on clothes too.

Launched by Kirti, Joris and Meera a month back, ‘Doodle Inc’ is an apparel brand whose core objective is to doodle and design on smart casuals, skirts, pants and other outfits.
The youngsters want to provide innovative outfits with quirky illustrations to their customers. Be it painting, photography, sketching or shading, the three of them had a passion for art since childhood.

This idea cropped up when they were studying fashion designing in Manipal University, Dubai. With certain themes as their core, their doodles are drawn over different
time cycles. “Each cycle lasts for about nine months and is based on a few designs and styles from the previous cycle,” says Kirti.

Citing an example, she says, “Our launch theme was ‘Circus for Dummies’ and
consisted of characters from the circus. We are looking at more themes now for the new outfits.”‘Doodle Inc’ is currently an e-store with most customers placing their orders on Facebook.

The youngsters say that their biggest marketing tools have been ‘word-of-mouth’ publicity and social media. However, they plan to open a full-fledged store eventually.
Joris says, “It took us one year of preparation and struggle to get this start-up going.

‘Doodle Inc’ is different because the clothes we make are not something anyone can get in the market. There is a lot of thought and innovation behind each design.” He adds, “In our launch collection, each character and design from the circus had a different story to tell.”

He adds, “The response has been great and some people love what we do. We want our brand to be quirky.” He describes them as “three artistes with three different ideologies who have come together. When we started out, many people thought this wouldn’t
work. But we are stubborn and don’t care about what the others say,” Joris
chuckles.  Thanking Bangalore for welcoming start-ups and artistes, he says happily, “It has been a whole new experience for us.”
