Smriti Nandan is presenting the ‘28th Devnandan Ubhayaker Yuva Sangeet Utsav’ on September 13 and 14.

The Utsav is being held at the Canara Union Hall, No  42, 8th Main Road, Malleswaram from 6 pm on September 13 and from 10 am on September 14.

Founded by the late Lalita Ubhayaker, a reputed vocalist of the Agra gharana and a philanthropist, the Utsav presents young promising classical musicians who are disciples of great gurus of the Hindustani tradition.

Artists who have featured in the festival over the years are now established senior musicians themselves who are sending their disciples to perform in the Utsav, to mention a few, Ustad Rashid Khan, the Gundecha Brothers and Sanjiv Abhayankar.

The artists performing on September 13 are Amita Sinha Mahapatra, a well-known dhrupad vocalist and senior disciple of the Gundecha Brothers, followed by Deborshee Bhattacharya, who is a disciple of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and swiftly making a name for himself.

The  September 14 morning concert features a vocal recital by Bangalore’s own Priya Purushothaman, a disciple of Vidushi Aditi Kaikini Upadhya and the late Pt Dinkar Kaikini.

The concluding performance will be a solo sarangi recital by Allarakha Kalawant from Kolkata, disciple of Ustad Imamuddin Sekarwala and Ustad Abdul Latif Khan. Entry to the Utsav is free.
