Five women rescued from Mumbai brothels

A team of CID police from Bangalore and Chitradurga Women Counselling Centre have busted a racket in women trafficking and rescued five women from brothels in Mumbai. Nine persons have been arrested in this connection.

The arrested have been identified as: Gangadhar of Tumkur, Puttaraj of Kolar, Santosh alias Ahmad of Kerala, Raju, Balu, Shiva Puja and Rekha, all from Bangalore, and Munshi of Mumbai. They have been remanded in judicial custody.

They were accused of luring women into flesh trade on the pretext of getting them jobs.

Of the five rescued women, two have been sent to rehabilitation centre in Bangalore and others are at the Chitradurga Women Counselling Centre.

The incident came to light when a woman, who approached the Chitradurga Women Counselling Centre for counselling, disclosed information about the operation of the racket, said Shankarappa of Chitradurga Women Counselling Centre.
