The much hyped film which released on Thursday, is directed by Raju Hirani and stars Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and Madhavan.

"The three male protagonists are coming together after 'Rang De Basanti' and the film was Raj Kumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra's first non-Munnabhai film after 'Munnabhai MBBS' and 'Laage Raho Munnabhai' and Hirani lives up to the expectations," said trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

The director has been offered praise by the critics for the film along with Aamir who has been praised as the star of the show.

Trade analyst Amod Mehra predicts that '3 Idiots' will become the biggest hit of the year.
"I think it will go on to become the biggest hit of the year because after a long time, here is a movie which the audience will not mind watching in theatres," Mehra said.

Mehra felt Aamir had surpassed his previous performances and Hirani will become the most sought after director after giving three consecutive huge hits.

Aamir plays Rancho, a free-spirited, bright engineering student who convinces his friends - Raju Rastogi (Sharman) and Farhan Qureshi (Madhavan) to chase excellence not success.
Rancho ends up changing the lives of his friends and suddenly disappears after graduation. The film is a journey of Sharman and Madhavan to find their missing friend.

Even though the film was said to be based on Chetan Bhagat's novel 'Five Point Someone', critics said that there is very little of the novel in the film. Except the basic plot of three engineering students and the hostel life, the script and climax is original.
The film has released this evening in 1,766 screens out of which 366 are outside India across 32 countries.

The premiere last night was a well attended affair. Salman Khan turned up to greet Aamir on his big day. Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan arrived past midnight for the show.
