Rowing talent receives cordial accord in C'magalur

C P Jyothi from Chikmagalur who won a medal by securing fourth position in the international rowing contest held at Taipei in Taiwan, received a grand welcome during her arrival to the city on Saturday.

As she arrived at Hiremagalur on Saturday, Ranadhira Pade organisation and civilians offered her bouquet of flowers and extended a warn welcome. They carried Jyothi and her trainer Tusker Manju in an open jeep on the main roads of the town.

On receiving felicitation, Jyothi said that 12 participants from 10 nations including India, Korea, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and Sri Lanka had participated in the contest. “I secured the fourth place by rowing two kilo metres in 8.10 minutes. I have won silver medal in Bangalore in 2012 and also a silver medal in Uttarakhand in the past. But, I am more happy for the kind of reception I have received here,” she said.

Felicitating Jyothi, Ranadhira Pade State General Secretary Jennyclass David appreciated Jyothi for her achievement. At a time when youth are interested in cricket, it is important to support athletes like Jyothi who have taken up a rare sports like rowing, he said.
