The boys were picked by the BOSCO Mane - Bangalore Oniyavara Seva Coota, an NGO which provides shelter to the children abandoned on the streets and those boys who have run away from their houses.

Apart from providing shelter, the NGO also provides vocational training to youths, who are deprived of opportunities in life. The organisation has contact points at several places in the City, including Majestic area and the railway station, where most of the boys are found and placed in the rehabilitation homes. At the rehabilitation homes, these children receive proper counselling.

On Thursday, boys from various BOSCO centres came together and had a chance to enjoy the festivities. “Since we are a religious organisation, we give importance to Christmas celebrations. It is a fun day for the boys,” said Brother Shino, a helper at the event.

“In the morning, the inmates participated in the cultural programmes, which was organised as part of the celebrations. There was also a performance on the birth of Jesus Christ,” said Shino.

And the best highlight of the festival was the arrival of Santa Claus, loaded with gifts and goodies. Children received T-shirts and chocolates and the day ended with a special meal, with cake for dessert.
