Royal family performs Saraswati puja at Palace

Saraswati puja was conducted by the royal family at Amba Vilas Palace on Wednesday, ahead of private the jamboo savari on Friday.

Following the death of the scion of the royal family Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar last December, Wadiyar’s older nephew Chaduranga Kantharaj Urs participated in the rituals, supervised by a 20-member team of Palace priests. The puja was held at Gombe Thotti in the Palace 9.30 am onwards, in keeping with the traditions and customs that have been in practice ever since Raja Wadiyar initiated Dasara at Srirangapatna in 1610 AD.

The puja assumes significance as it is in continuation of the rituals after Khasagi Durbar, in the run-up to Jamboo Savari every year.

It also marked the beginning of Navaratri festivities for the royal family members, who had turned up in large numbers. Unlike Khasagi Durbar, there was restricted entry for Saraswati puja.
