Yuvajana Mela kicks off in Sullia

“Yuvajana Mela is a good forum for the youth from rural areas to showcase their skills and talent,” the minister said in his address.

He presented Swami Vivekananda State Awards to 10 persons and two organisations for the year 2007-08.

The winners are: Venkatesh Ilegara Jabbalagudda of Gandugali Kumararama Yuvakamandala in Koppala district, Srinivas B V from Rajajinagar in Bangalore, A S Monnappa from Mayamudi village of Virajpet in Kodagu district, V Ravi from Bagepalli of Chikballapur district, L V Malathesh Urs of Kanaka Yuvaka Mandala of Hiriyur taluk in Chitradurga district, Lakshminarayan Kajagadde of Sullia in Dakshina Kannada, H Renukadevi from Bannaghatta village of Kolar district, Manje Gowda of Sathenahalli in Hassan district, Hemavathi from Sindhanur in Raichur district, J Hemalatha of Srishti Yuvathi Mandala in Shimoga district.

The award winning organisations are: Matrubhumi Yuvaka Sangha of Bangalore and Kuvempu Sangeetavahini Kreeda mattu Samskrutika Yuvathi Sangha of Davangere.
C C Hemalatha and Shivaswamy, the winners of national awards were honoured on the occasion.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the exhibitions, which had around 86 stalls. There were stalls by Fisheries Department, Animal Husbandry Department, University of Agriculture Bangalore, Horticulture University of Bagalkot, NRCC of Puttur, local Sthree Shakti groups, khadi industries, cottage industries and book publishers.

District-in-Charge Minister J Krishna Palemar released a souvenir. MLA S Angara presided. Prior to this, a colourful procession was held.
