Missing girl found just after reward declared

Police certain that caller didn't kidnap her, still question him

A three-year-old girl, who went missing from the lawns of India Gate over a week ago, was found near a park in west Delhi’s Janakpuri on Sunday.

No one has been identified or held for the girl’s sudden disappearance on September 28.

Police confirmed that she found was Jahnvi Ahuja and she was recovered from the Sunday market (weekly flea market) of Block D in Janakpuri.

A youth found her near Lajwanti Garden and immediately informed police on realising that it is that missing girl.

“A police team was immediately rushed to confirm if she was a missing girl and indeed Jahnvi. We are certain that the caller had nothing to do with the disappearance of the girl. But we are questioning him about the circumstances,” a police officer told Deccan Herald, adding he had seen her pictures in newspapers.

The officer added that she bears no mark of any injury, is healthy and has been handed over to her parents.

Police refused to divulge more details saying they are investigating whether she was indeed kidnapped and police pressure forced abductors to release her in a public place.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 to anyone who would help in tracing the girl.

Before her recovery, Jahnvi had last been seen around 9.20 pm in the CCTV footage of India Gate. Delhi Police’s Special Cell and Crime Branch had been roped in to recover her.

Her disappearance had caught the attention of the public as campaigns to recover her had been kickstarted by her parents on social networking sites.
