Filmmaker Karan Johar has made his debut in designing female wear for a clothing brand.

Johar, 42, who has often worked as a costume designer in his films, said, “Through the years, I have used my films as an outlet to showcase my own sense of fashion which is luxurious and grand, yet functional at the same time.

This is my first attempt to recreate my own distinct style by putting together a collection for a women's fashion brand. It is very exciting.”

This occasion-wear line comprised of stylish separates and ensembles, which are opulent yet functional. “Karan’s take on fashion is an interesting confluence of styles inspired by high-street trends and haute-couture.

The launch of this collection will add to our fashion repertoire and help us re-define fashion trends,” said Vineet Gautam, the country head of the brand. Johar made his stint as a fashion designer with Varun Bahl for men’s collection four years ago.

On the film front, the filmmaker will co-produce a biopic on the life of hockey legend major Dhyan Chand.

The late Olympic-winner is considered as the greatest field hockey player of all time. Johar took to Twitter to announce that he has acquired the rights to make the biopic. “My friends Pooja... Aarti Shetty and I are honoured and proud to have the rights to tell the story of the legendary sportsman Dhyanchand...(sic),” the director tweeted.
