Nine AP ministers in Delhi to meet Sonia

Last Updated 27 December 2009, 17:20 IST

The ministers, who drove straight from the airport to Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy’s residence, would ask both Sonia and Singh to give them a “time-bound” programme on Telengana.

“We are here to ask the Centre and the Congress to come out with a time-bound programme for the creation of a Telangana state,” AP Information and Tourism Minister Geeta Reddy told reporters here.

The ministers would also convey the “sentiments” of the Telengana people on Home Minister P Chidambaram’s December 23 statement calling for further consultation, which has led to the apprehension that the statehood issue would be put on the backburner, she said.

During their Delhi stay, the delegation would meet as many Congress leaders as possible, including Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Chidambaram and Law Minister Veerappa Moily, Reddy said.

Meanwhile, the delegation is understood to have urged Jaipal Reddy to “publicly” join the movement for Telengana statehood.
