Last Updated 14 October 2014, 19:20 IST

The High Court on Tuesday quashed all proceedings against former MLA M Srinivas in connection with the private complaint registered against him with the Lokayukta under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The former MLA was accused of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income, when he was MLA of Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency. A complaint was lodged against him by Dinesh Kalahalli, a native of Kalahalli in Ramanagar district.

Srinivas had moved the High Court, challenging the investigation ordered against him.

Hearing the petition, Justice N K Phanindra granted liberty to the complainant to go ahead with the complaint after obtaining valid sanctions. The trial court had taken cognizance of the complaint and ordered investigation. The Lokayukta police began investigation and the petitioner moved the High Court challenging it. Srinivas contended that prior sanction was not obtained to prosecute him as he was an MLA then (in 2012).

Summons stayed

The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday stayed the summons issued to liquor baron Vijay Mallya by a Mangalore court.

The Department of Legal Meteorology had filed a case against Mallya in a case of excess pricing of a particular brand of  liquor and the latter had approached the High Court challenging the summons.
