“The Health Minister had asked for a report to be submitted. He is likely to take a decision in a week's time about the doctors’ returning,” said D N Nayak, Health Commissioner.
BBMP is already facing shortage of doctors in hospitals. Out of 117 doctors working, 58 of them are on deputation and there are 15 vacancies to be filled.
Doctors do not come forward to take up jobs in BBMP hospitals due to poor pay and extreme working conditions. “We have sent in a request to the KPSC to recruit doctors to fill the vacant positions. We are expecting to fill the positions in a month’s time," said A M Kunjappa, Additional Commissioner (Administration).
