For those who love to indulge in seafood, here is some good news. Benjarong is hosting ‘The Amazing Benjarong Seafood Festival’ till October 26.

The menu of fine Thai seafood delicacies will have a fine selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The enticing appetisers include ‘pla kapong dang tod bai makrut krob’ (crispy fillets of red snapper tossed with crispy fried makrut leaves, bird’s eye chillies and tender peppercorn), ‘pla hor baitaey’ (morsels of sear fish delicately marinated, wrapped and deep fried in pandanus leaves) and ‘prathod lom’ (prawn wrapped in wonton sheet and deep fried with plum sauce).  

A variety of Thai salads with prawns, squid and fish are available too. The soup section has a coconut cream based soup with prawns and crab and a typical tom yum based spicy seafood soup with flat noodles, which can be a meal by itself. 

The menu also includes ‘Yang’, which is food grilled with charcoal on low to medium heat. This has specialities like grilled lobster or squid in Thai roasted chilli paste, grilled fish dumplings on skewers or a mixed seafood platter. All the grilled specialities are served with raw papaya salad. The main course includes ‘senmee pahd namprik pow’ (rice vermicelli cooked with choice of seafood in Thai roasted chilli paste), ‘khao pahd keow wahn’ (jasmine rice tossed with green curry paste) and ‘pla kapong dang pahd khing’ (fillets of red snapper topped with ginger sauce). 

   Delicacies like ‘Rad prik’ are also a part of the menu.

Says chef Aji Joseph, “It offers guests a variety of seafood options. We have also used innovative sauces with Thai flavours. For example, for the steamed whole fish, the sauce is based on the ingredients of the classical Thai tom yum soup. ‘Choochee goong’ consists of whole jumbo prawns cooked in a thick red curry sauce, which is based on Thai red curry.”

The festival is on from 12.30 pm to 3 pm (lunch) and 7.30 pm to 11 pm (dinner). The restaurant is located at 1/3, Ulsoor Road, Ulsoor. For reservations, call 32217201.
