It will be an all-Karnataka boys’ under-16 singles final in the Fensta National Sub-junior tennis championship in New Delhi on Saturday as the top seed, BR Nikshep set up a summit clash with his State-mate and the second seed Vasisht Cheruku.
In the semifinals on Friday, the defending champion Nikshep overwhelmed Mrutunjay Badola of Uttrakhand 7-5, 6-4 while Vasisht defeated S Manish of Tamil Nadu 7-6 (3), 6-3.
Vasisht, a trainee at SAT (Bangalore), is in line for a double crown as he won the doubles title, partnering Nitin Sinha of West Bengal. The pair beat Yugal Bansal and Aman Bhatia 2-6, 6-x, 10-8 in super tie-break.
In the under-14 singles semifinals, Nitin M Reddy of Karnaaka lost 1-6, 1-6 to the top seed Sidhant Banthia of Maharashtra.
