Lightning leaves eight students, teacher injured

 Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Mangalore on Saturday and Sunday night. 

As many as 8 students and a teacher suffered injuries when lightning struck a madrasa at Kanthadka in Vittal on Saturday night. 

At least 65 students were in the madrasa when the incident occurred. Teacher Abdul Razak and students — Sinan, Pawaz, Ashiq, Ashika, Semina, Bishika, Ramseena and Sahsadiya — are the injured.

 The walls of the madrasa have developed cracks and electric equipment including wires and meters worth Rs one lakh have been damaged. Electric equipment in the house belonging to Ramesh Moolya at Thalithanooji in Kolnadu have been damaged.

Another house belonging to Umavathi Acharya was partially damaged at the Palike Janata Colony in Vittal.
