Supporters screamed with joy at the cheer leaders interviewed on television. The Indian Premier League (IPL) while being held out of the country is creating passionate waves among Bangaloreans.

“Bangalore! we will have Hyderabadi Biryani for dinner tonight,” announces a Master of Ceremonies (MC) at a private screening for the IPL final in the city. The fervour whipped up by the MC was not targeted at any person but the side that hails from the city of Hyderabad.

Replicating the club level games held by most western countries in various sports, the IPL has got the city backing the team with lot of passion. “It is definitely the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) that is going to win,” said Diana, a BPO industry personnel,  pointing to the red and gold jersey she was wearing.

“I just hope we blast the Deccan Chargers,” said a excited Deepak, another RCB supporter in the city. The identity with Bangalore has been the prime reason for the thumping support each team has received. “I have lived here for as long as I can remember, it is definitely the city that I would support,” said Diana.

Deepak recalled the last time around when RCB was languishing at the bottom and said, “Even then I was rooting for the team,” showing where his loyalties stand.

Aashish, another supporter for the RCB, added that even while he is not from this city he can find no reason not to support the team from the place he is working.

While jeers were missing for the opposition team it was the night for the Red and Gold who were the obvious favourites here.
