Promote cultivation of oranges: ZP Chief

Zilla Panchayat President Chodumada Shareen Subbaiah has directed the police, Public Works Department, and Mines and Geology officials to issue permits for the transportation of sand and gravel.

Owing to the shortage of sand, the construction activities have come to a standstill.

Speaking at tri- monthly KDP meeting in Madikeri on Tuesday, she said that she will discuss with the deputycommissioner and SP on sand mining and its transportation.
ZP Standing Committee on Social Justice President Bond Ganapathi and Standing committee on Education and Health President B B Bharathish said that the authorities should not support those engaged in sand mafia.

To a query on survey of land owned by schools, Survey department Deputy Director Mallikarjunaiah said that the survey of 25 schools have been completed.

The ZP President said that there has been a decline in area under cultivation of oranges. The horticulture department should chalk out programmes to promote cultivation of oranges.

Standing committee on Agriculture and Industry President T P Sundaresh said that a sapling is sold at Rs 8, not many have come forward to purchase it. The orange saplings should be sold at less price.

The President said that taluk-level meeting of food supply should be organised by the food inspectors. All the ration shops should be kept open from 8 am to 8 pm.
On complaints on shortage of anti-venom stocks in Primary Health Centres, the ZP President directed District Health Officer to ensure that there was no shortage of medicines.
