Lokayukta cops file FIR against Wakf minister

 The Lokayukta police have registered an FIR against Municipal Administration and Wakf Minister Qamarul Islam in connection with the alleged embezzlement of Wakf property in Gulbarga district.

The Lokayukta special court had ordered police investigation into the case. 

A private complaint was filed by Tabrez Pasha alleging that Qamarul Islam and his family members had used eight acres and 34 cents of Wakf property in Gulbarga and sold them after carving out 198 sites. 

The complainant alleged that Qamarul Islam was a member of Wakf Board when the alleged scam took place. The Wakf Board had eight acres and 34 cents of property in survey number 12 in Badepura village in Gulabrga.

Qamarul Islam allegedly acquired  a General Power of Attorney (GPA) to use the land and formed a layout. In 2008, as Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Qamarul Islam allegedly called for a meeting of Gulbarga Mahanagara Palike and managed to see that a resolution was passed to regularise the layout.  

  In 2013, Karnataka State Minority Commission had submitted a report to the government recommending an inquiry against the minister. 

The Lokayukta police have registered an FIR under Sections 13 (1) (c) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and sections 406, 420, 463, 466, 468 and 471 of the IPC.
