Announce special package for coffee growers: MP

Addressing a function to present the Best Coffee Grower Award organised by ‘Krishika’ group at Devavrunda village in Mudigere on Sunday, he said the Central government should not bring any kind of politics into the matter.

He said he would urge the government to appoint a coffee grower to the post of the Coffee Board President.

Speaking on the occasion, Legislative Council former chairman B L Shankar said it has been scientifically proved that the coffee plants play a vital role in maintaining good climate.
“The coffee plants take in more CO2 and thus have less share in climate change. It has been scientifically proved. The coffee land is eligible to get more funds under carbon trading,” he said.

Mudigere MLA M P Kumaraswamy said the Western Ghats area of Malnad should be declared calamity-affected and the bureaucracy should give up its bias against the coffee growers.

The Best Coffee Grower Awards were presented to B K Changappa of Pandarahalli village of Chikmagalur taluk and Naresh of Hunjugondahalli of Sakleshpur taluk.
The awards included Rs 10,000 cash each.

Karnataka Coffee Growers Association President N K Pradeep, Coffee Board member Dunduga Subbegowda, Mohan Kumar, Dinesh, Jayaram, Deepak, B C Aravind, Basanna of ‘Krishika’ were present.
