Special trains to meet season rush

After the successful run of premium trains for the first time in 2013, South Western Railways will continue to offer services this year.

To meet the ever growing demand of the travelling public, seasonal services of premium trains were plied for confirmed accommodation on short notice. Currently, the South Western Railways is running four such Premium services, one each from Yeshwantpur, Mysore and Bangalore Cantonment.

The trains will run as follows: Yeshwantpur to Jaipur, Miraj, Nagercoil , Bikaner and Katra; Mysore to Varanasi, Santrakachi and Howrah; Bangalore Cantonment to Bhuvaneswar; Hubli to Patna.

Premium Trains have only 15 days Advance Reservation Period (ARP) compared to regular trains, for which reservation commences 60 days in advance. Tickets for premium trains can only be booked online, via the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website.

However, after charting, vacant berths are offered at the current-day booking counters in the originating stations and tickets are not sold at reservation counters. No concession is applicable, irrespective of the age of the passenger and no wait-list tickets are issued to passengers on these trains.

Besides, special features such as only AC 2 Tier, AC 3 Tier and sleeper class coaches with Rajdhani like facilities, including catering, a key feature in quick transit with an average speed of more than 60 kmph, limited stoppages and freedom from touts and unauthorized travellers.
