'Music is what we live for'

A software engineer by profession, it was not long before Michael Dias quit his lucrative job and decided to follow his true calling — music.

He started scouting the City to find the right musicians to form a band and met Kaushik Kumar and Deepak Raghu to form ‘Mad Orange Fireworks’.

Formed in 2011, the band has Michael on vocals, Kaushik on bass and Deepak Raghu on drums. Just like their name, they set the stage on fire with their fresh and experimental music.

“We are called ‘Mad Orange Fireworks’ because everybody is mad in some way while orange describes our music. Fireworks has a nice ring to it and it’s our way of saying that this is what happens on stage,” says Michael.

Over the last three and a half years, they have been quite active in the music scene and hit all the big venues across the City. They have even headlined a few college and music fests and done their fair share of private and corporate events.

With around 150 live shows to their credit, ‘Mad Orange Fireworks’ have even performed in cities like Chennai, Cochin, Trivandrum, Mangalore, Hyderabad and Pune. “Our jam sessions are surprisingly boring but effective. In the jam room, it’s about all work and no play. Whenever we get in, it’s always with an agenda and we achieve our targets most often. But since we love music, we have these sessions as often as we can,” adds Michael.

Each of their songs reflects a certain state of mind. “Our writing is all about pushing the boundaries of music while at the same time connecting with as wide an audience as possible. And of course, our quirkiness and showmanship also add to our uniqueness,” says Deepak.

Their first album ‘Lifeline Cast’, which consists ten songs, was received well by the music-lovers with rocking numbers like ‘Feet Ain’t Movin’, ‘On The Ledge’, ‘Black Hole’, ‘Empty Saturday’ and ‘Break My Fall’ to name a few. They are currently working on their second album and hoping that it will be even bigger than the first.

“Music is what we live for. There is nothing else that really means more to any of us. It’s our sweet escape from all the rubbish around us, our daily bread and our true love,” sums up Kaushik.
