The CBI has registered a preliminary enquiry against Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) and unknown officials of the Environment Ministry for alleged diversion of forestland in Jharkhand’s Saranda.
Last Sunday, the agency filed an FIR against the company for irregularities in procuring coal blocks. The CBI has two cases registered against the company in the coal scam besides the new preliminary enquiry.
The fresh enquiry came even as new information cropped up during the probe into the two coal scam cases against it.
“The preliminary enquiry is to probe the irregularities in granting approval/clearance for diversion of forest land for mining purposes in Saranda forest between 2007-13,” a senior CBI official said.
