Woman snatches gold chain from elderly man

A woman riding a scooter snatched a gold chain from a senior citizen near Brigade Apartments at RBI Colony in Subramanyapura on Saturday morning and made herself scarce, the police said.

Venkataramanaiah, 75, a resident of Brigade Apartments, told the police that a woman unknown to him and riding a scooter stopped him while he was out on his morning walk at around 7.45 am and asked him if he knew Tamil.

When he told her he did not, she rode away. However, she returned within a minute, snatched his chain and fled, he said.

The suspect was neither masked nor wearing a helmet. The victim immediately called up the police and described the suspect’s physical features. He also told them he could recognise her if he happened to see her again, the police said. 

The jurisdictional police termed the incident a rare occurrence. “We come across men robbing men and women, but a woman robbing a senior citizen in full public view is a rare occurrence,” said a senior police officer. The police have formed a team to trace the woman.

Speeding bike kills man

A 65-year-old man died on the spot when a two-wheeler rammed him near Hebbal Main Road on Friday night.

The police have identified the victim as Nanjundaiah, a native of Kolar Gold Fields. Hari Rajiv, the motorcyclist, who was riding without helmet, suffered serious head injuries in the accident. Quoting doctors, the police said that Rajiv was critical. The accident occurred as the speeding bike rammed Nanjundaiah, who was crossing the road. Hebbal traffic police have registered a case.

Priest arrested

A temple priest was arrested by the Nelamangala Town police on Friday for assaulting a dalit boy.

According to the police, the priest, Vijay Kumar, a native of Chikmagalur was working at the Rudreshwara temple in Nelamangala for over a year. 

On October 21, the dalit boy, Santosh, went to the temple. The angered priest hit the boy on the head with a hard object. The boy collapsed holding his head and started bleeding profusely. 

The devotees present at the temple shifted the boy to a nearby hospital and informed his parents. Santosh's father approached the Nelamangala Town police and registered an atrocity case against the priest.
