Lone doctor on duty collapses because of overwork

Last Updated 27 October 2014, 19:10 IST

The lone doctor, who was attending to patients at the taluk hospital here on Sunday as his co-professionals chose to take part in the statewide strike of medical officers, collapsed apparently because of overwork and stress.

Unaware of the doctors’ strike, a large number of patients kept filing into the hospital since morning. The hospital was already short of doctors. While at least 15 doctors are required to attend to patients, only six of them were working.

Barring the lone doctor attending to emergency patients, the rest took part in the strike.
Dr Revanna, the lone doctor on duty at the hospital, had been attending to patients since morning. However, the overwork got the better of him and he collapsed.

Nurses and paramedics quickly came to his rescue and took him to the emergency and trauma care section of the hospital where he was treated. Dr Revanna returned to work quickly thereafter.

Meanwhile, scores of ordinary patients who had come to the hospital for treatment cursed the authorities and moved to private clinics.
