Officer faces minister's ire for wearing 'kada'

It seemed to be a golden aversion for a Uttar Pradesh minister and it left many, especially the victim, shocked as well as puzzled.UP Minister for Secondary Education Mehboob Ali reportedly ordered suspension of a senior education official as the latter had worn a gold ring in one of his fingers and a kada (band) on his hands.

The minister, who conducted a surprise inspection at a government school in UP’s Barbanki district, about 40 kilometres from here on Monday, reportedly became very upset on seeing the gold attired accountant Rajmani Mishra, who had gone there to receive Ali.

The minister forthwith summoned the senior district education officials and asked them to suspend Mishra, reports said.Though the minister later clarified that he had ordered suspension of Mishra on charges of laxity, sources in the education department said that the real reason behind the suspension was the ring and the band.

Mishra also reportedly told his superiors that the minister had rebuked him for wearing the gold ring and band. “He conveyed his strong displeasure immediately,” the official confided to his colleagues.

Mishra strongly denied the charge of laxity and said that he had not done anything wrong to earn the wrath of the minister. “There was no other provocation for the minister to punish,” he added.

The minister might have felt that the official should not have put on the ornaments while being on duty, the officials in the education department said. May be the minister did not like gold.
