Woman falsely accuses uncle of molestation

Last Updated 29 October 2014, 19:16 IST

A woman in her late 30s lodged a molestation complaint against her 49-year-old maternal uncle at the DJ Halli police station on Tuesday, but preliminary investigation suggested that it was her “plan” to stop her brother’s marriage to the man’s daughter.

The complainant apparently held a grudge against her uncle, Mohammad Zakir, as her brother was engaged to marry his daughter. The police didn’t hesitate to register the case, but preliminary investigation revealed that Zakir had not molested the complainant.

Police questioned the woman’s parents and relatives who denied the accusation. She had actually “plotted” to stop the marriage between her brother, Aijaz, and Zakir’s daughter.

According to the woman’s parents, she had married Mubarak, a second-hand car dealer, against their wishes and was living with him in Belgaum.

“She wanted her brother, who is a software engineer in the US, to marry a relative of her husband’s but her parents shot down the proposal,” a senior police officer said.

“So she hatched a plan to stop the wedding that was scheduled for Thursday. She came down to Bangalore on Tuesday and fought with her parents and Zakir, during which she was pushed. Claiming that she was manhandled and molested, she approached the police. We are still questioning the woman and her family members to dig out the truth,” the officer added.

The next course of action is being discussed with the police top brass, the officer said.
