Rally time: Sensex, Nifty new highs

A surprise move by the Bank of Japan to ease monetary policy and good earnings from a couple of companies helped the Indian indices end at another closing high after it had touched a new peak on Thursday.

The Nifty hit an all time high of 8330.75 and closedat 8322.2 while Sensex hit an all time high of 27894.32 before closing at 27865.83.

IDFC was the top gainer in Friday's session gaining 5.4 per cent to close at Rs 156.25 after company posted robust July-September results which were above estimates.

The company had also announced the demerger of its financial undertaking into its wholly-owned step down subsidiary IDFC Bank Ltd. Other major gainers on the Nifty included Tata Power (up 4.25 per cent), GAIL (up 3.58 per cent), BPCL (up 3.52 per cent).

Bharti Airtel was the top loser on the Nifty after it ended with a loss of nearly 2 per cent at Rs 399.80 despite meeting market expectations on the results front. Other Nifty losers included Zee Limited (down 1 per cent), ACC (down 0.14 per cent) and ITC which ended marginally lower.

Thousand stocks advanced on the Nifty as against 519 declines while 69 scrips remained unchanged. In terms of volumes traded, Unitech was the most active stock with volumes of 8.9 crore shares.

JP Associates was the second most traded stock in terms of volumes with 3.93 crore shares traded. In terms of value, the most traded stocks included ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel and State Bank of India.
