Fresh FIRs against Rathore

Last Updated 29 December 2009, 19:48 IST

The Panchkula police have registered fresh cases under various sections of the Indian Penal Code  dealing with wrongful confinement and attempt to murder against Rathore on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Ashu.

The second complaint filed by Ruchika’s father, Subhash Chander Girhotra, pertained to charges of forging the inquest report at the behest of Rathore.

Ashu alleged that Rathore kept him in wrongful confinement besides implicating him in false cases of theft after his sister pressed molestation charges against the former police official.
Ruchika committed suicide by consuming poison three years after the incident.

Maneesh Chaudhury, SSP, Panchkula, confirmed the lodging of fresh FIRs, saying the investigation against Rathore had begun in right earnest. He said the sections under which the FIRs had been lodged were “non-bailable”.

Evading a direct reply whether Rathore would be arrested, Chaudhury said the police would deal with the case as legally required.

Interestingly, the Haryana police have decided to book Rathore in fresh cases ahead of the visit of Ruchika’s father and her friend Aradhana’s family to Delhi on Wednesday to meet Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.
