JOIN USThe Bangalore Police Commissioner M N Reddi on Friday said he does not find any fault on the part of The Indiranagar Cambridge School management as of now.
“But if anything is found during the course of investigation against anyone, we will take due action. It was the accused who lured the child and took her to a toilet room,” he added.
Talking to reporters after visiting the school, Reddi said the school has already been booked under Section 188 of the Karnataka Police Act, along with 44 other schools, for not implementing the safety guidelines.
“However, after this incident, we will seek permission from the court to take criminal action against the school and a case under Section 188 will be filed for non-compliance with safety guidelines,” he added. The permission will be taken as the issue of safety guidelines is pending before the High Court, he added.
He said no criminal cases were being filed against any of the schools as the High Court is hearing the matter. The High Court has asked us to follow a hand-shake approach. “That is why we had not finalised chargesheets against the schools. Now, we will bring it to the notice of the High Court,” he added.
On growing incidents of sexual abuse of schoolchildren, he said: “There are about 4,000-5,000 schools in Bangalore and lakhs of children are studying. There is a criminal mindset in some people, who commit such crimes. We are taking all precautionary measures and will ensure that all our schools are safe for children.”
“Any incident that pertains to a child, shakes the level of confidence of the community at large. They get into a fear mode. I’m not trivialising this case. It is one case that has occurred in a particular school because of the mindset of one individual. Criminality is rare, not pervasive. I don’t want Bangaloreans to think that there is a general deterioration of the situation,” he said.
