Life convict commits suicide in jail

A prisoner serving life imprisonment allegedly hanged himself inside the Central Prisons, Parappana Agrahara, on Friday.

The victim, identified as Vijayendra, 47, was a native of Mandya. The incident occurred at 8th barrack at around 2.30 pm, when other prisoners were busy in construction work, said the Parappana Agrahara police. The cause for the incident is yet to be ascertained, police said.

Vijayendra was involved in two cases. He had been arrested by the Mandya police in connection with the murder of his relative. Later, he was shifted to Central Prisons, Parappana Agrahara, in 2003.

While inside the prisons, he started circulating counterfeit notes and was arrested by the Parappana Agrahara police for the offence. He was shifted to Gulbarga jail a few months ago. He was brought back to Bangalore on August 25, to be produced before a local court. He was at the Parappana Agrahara prisons since then, police said.

Youths hangs himself

In another incident in Siddapura police limits on Friday night, a 25-year-old youth allegedly hanged himself at his house. The victim was identified as Dilip, a resident of Dayananda Nagar. He was staying with his mother in a rented house.

According to the police, he was in love with his owner’s daughter. The owner scolded him for the affair on Friday and asked  him to stay away from his daughter. An upset Dilip told him that he would end his life and returned home, police said. Soon after his mother went out for work at the City Market, he hanged himself to death from a ceiling fan. The incident came to light after his mother returned home.

Body found

The body of Kumar, 25, from Shidlaghatta was found hanging from a tree near Bommavaram under Devanahalli police limits on Saturday.

Police suspect that he might have been murdered as there were severe cuts on the head and blood stains were found all over the body. “The miscreants might have hung the body from the tree to make it look like a suicide. With the help of some papers found in the wallet, the body was identified,” a senior police officer said.

Woman run over

A 45-year-old woman was killed when a goods vehicle ran her over near Kondli Cross on NH-206 in Gubbi taluk on Saturday, reports DHNS from Tumkur.

The deceased Shamantakamani, was a resident of Halkurki in Tiptur taluk.
