NSDC, FKCCI keen to upgrade student employability skills

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) New Delhi signed an MoU with industry body Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) for programmes on Improvement in Employability Quotient and Skill Gap studies here on Monday.

At an interactive session on “Skill development programme/Enhancing Employability Quotient” National Skill Development Corporation CEO and MD Dilip Chenoy narrated the efforts made by the Government of India under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to train 250 million youth by 2022, detailing the challenges as training talent mismatch, funding and student interest.

He described the roadmap for creating an institutional framework through public-private partnerships facilitated by NSDC.

The Prime Minister has initiated a 5-point agenda for skilling the youth through a skills Ministry at the Centre and state skills Ministries.

To encourage entrepreneurial talents in youth NSDC will fund 75 per cent of the capital requirement at 6 per cent interest without collateral and  mere personal guarantee, Chenoy said.

He urged FKCCI to arrange to take two apprentices per industry to train 50,000 of them initially. On the lines of “World Skill Competition”, he suggested that the Karnataka government and FKCCI arrange a state-level skills competition to give impetus to skilling ecosystems.
