Locals should benefit from Sainik School: CM

The Sainik School, Koodige, has produced many Army officers for the nation. The School has been established in Kodagu with the very purpose that maximum number of students from the district could be benefited. May many more local students utilise the Sainik School, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

He paid a visit to Sainik School, Koodige, which is jointly run by both Central and State governments, on Tuesday and held a discussion with the School Principal Capt (IN) Ben H Berson. During his interaction, the CM gathered information on the strength of the school and also the number of students from the district.

Siddaramaiah directed the Principal to effectively utilise the grant of Rs one crore, which was announced by him in the State budget, during his tenure as Finance Minister in the State government.

Reacting to the same, Principal Capt Ben H Berson said that awareness is being created in the district on the Sainik school and priority is being given to local students. A total of 500 students are carrying out their studies in the school, he added.

Later, speaking to mediapersons, the Principal said that applications have been invited for admission into the Sainik School and November 29 is the last date to collect the application form. The students currently pursuing their studies in class five may apply. For details, students may contact: 08276–278961. The admission will be on the basis of entrance test, he said.

On his arrival, the CM was escorted by Cavalcade Captained by Cdt Khemanna and was presented an elegant guard of Honour Commanded by Cadet Eshwar.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the Cadets Mess on the occasion.  The newly inaugurated mess can accommodate more than 1,000 cadets on the lines of cadets mess like in Indian Military Academy, Dehra Dun and Officers Training Academy, Chennai.

District in-charge Minister K J George, former MP H Vishwanath, MLC T John, AICC Member Chandralekha, Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tewari, Superintendent of Police Varthika Katiyar, Kodagu Sainik School Head Master Wg Cdr MK Khan and Registrar Lt Cdr KP Ajesh were present.
