Addressing a press conference here, NCW chairperson Girija Vyas said: “We want abetment to suicide charges against Rathore in Ruchika case.”

Vyas also demanded that charges of criminal conspiracy should be registered against those who backed Rathore.

Asking the authorities to expedite the process she said that the disgraced IPS officer should be booked under attempt to murder and criminal intimidation.

“NCW has written to the Haryana government and Home Ministry requesting them to file a fresh complaint under Section 11 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),” Vyas said.

Slapping several sections of IPC against Rathore, Vyas said the former DGP should be given a harsh sentence to set a precedent.

She also informed that the commission would also take legal opinion on whether civil damage suit should be filed to provide compensation to the aggrieved members of Ruchika’s family for the mental torture they had suffered.

The NCW had also set up a five-member committee comprising of eminent legal luminaries to examine the sequence of events since the complaint was first made by the complainant and also to establish whether there was any attempt to scuttle or impede the investigations in an effort to hush up the matter.
