In an adventure gone wrong, a hot air balloon carrying two foreign tourists took off from the world famous Pushkar fair and accidentally landed in Ajmer Central Jail premises.

The jail authorities panicked on seeing the hot air balloon as they feared it could be an attempt to ferry criminals.

The police said that the balloon took off from Pushkar fair with two West Indian journalists and a pilot late in the evening. The balloon got carried away by the strong winds and later landed in the football ground of Ajmer Central Jail.

Officials said that at the time of landing, all criminals were inside their barracks. Jail authorities detained the tourists and examined all the details. Later, the police and district administration were informed about the incident.

According to senior officials, two more balloons took off at the same time from Pushkar and met with a similar fate. One of the balloons landed on the Jaipur-Ajmer railway track, 50 km away from the fair, while another balloon landed in Vaishali Nagar. All tourists are safe.
Later, a complaint was filed by the jail officials and the district administration cancelled the permission granted to a private company for operating hot air balloons for tourists during the Pushkar fair.

“A complaint has been lodged by jail authorities about the incident. Initial investigations revealed that the pilot lost control due to strong winds and eventually landed in jail premises. Initially, three balloons took off from Pushkar fair. One landed in central jail premises, one on Jaipur-Ajmer railway track and another one in Vaishali Nagar,” said Hanuman Vishnoi, sub-inspector, civil lines police station, Ajmer.
