Some of Bollywood's biggest names including Karan Johar and Ram Gopal Verma have given their thumps up to the blockbuster.

"I have four favourites this year, 'Kaminey', 'Paa', '3 Idiots' and 'Avatar'. All four raised the bars for filmmaking. But while the first three were aspirational, 'Avatar' was unachievable," said Karan Johar.

Director Apoorva Lakhia called it an "out of this world experience" while Bollywood's maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma was so impressed by the film that he decided to equate Cameron with God for creating the magnum opus.
The 3D blockbuster shows a race of blue-skinned giants inhabiting an Earth-like moon called Pandora.

"James Cameron has gone a step ahead of God by building a world even God couldn't imagine. After watching 'Avatar', I felt I belong to a primitive filmmaking world," said RGV.
"Avatar is my favourite film of 2009. It made an important point about our civilization in a subtle manner and with the most powerful audio-visuals," said filmmaker Imtiaz Ali.
After watching the film Abhishek Bachchan tweeted, "It's not a film. It's an experience. James Cameron is Hollywood's answer to my favourite director Manmohan Desai. 'Avatar' too is a Hindi film at heart."
