Mangaloreans will have a lot to look forward to on new year day and a flood of options await them in the city. Shops and establishments in the City are being ornately decorated with huge stars, lights etc, to tempt into a shopping spree.

For those who like to celebrate the joyful moments of life in a not so subtle manner, there are wild parties in hotels which will have the city’s finest DJs, great food and beverages.

There is a good news for those who want to party. Superintendent of Police Dr A S Rao said the Dakshina Kannada police would go slightly soft on New Year revellers by giving them the extra 30 minutes to wind up their celebration (12.30 am).

However, he said there will be police patrolling on the streets on New Year’s eve. One can have a gala time as per law. But drunken driving is strictly prohibited.

State-of-the-art interceptor vehicle with traffic wing of the district police will keep an eye on all the party buffs. Armed with alcometer, and video camera and other equipment, this vehicle will keep a tab on motorists who may gather the ‘spirit’ to take on the law after their party.

He said police officers will be on rounds till 3 am on New Year’s day. “Celebrations should not disturb the peace and tranquillity in the area and nuisance created by sound systems will not be tolerated,” SP added.
