Three teachers killed in road mishap in TN

The mishap occurred in a village near Vallam, about 15 km from the temple town of Thanjavur. The vehicle suffered a tyre burst and ploughed into a tamarind tree in the darkness.

The deceased have been identified as the car driver Rajesh, Bhaskar Raj Gowda and Sivamallaiah. All the six critically injured passengers have been admitted to the Government Medical Hospital in Thanjavur. The group of teachers were proceeding to Velankanni, in the neighbouring Nagpattinam district, which annually attracts a lot of tourists during the Christmas-New Year week.

Velankanni houses the famous Catholic shrine of ‘Church of Our Lady of Health’, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century.
