A 55-year-old woman has alleged that her two young grandchildren were poisoned by their neighbour, who wanted to take revenge against her. The incident took place in Madanayakanahalli, off Tumkur Road, on Friday morning.

According to the police, two-and-a-half-year-old Tipu Sultan and one-and-a-half-year-old Umar Farooq are recovering in a government hospital as they fell ill after consuming the ‘poisoned’ milk. They are said to be out of danger.

The police said that on Thursday morning, the complainant, Tajunnisa, went to get water from a nearby public tap. While Tajunnisa was filling her pots, her neighbour passed sarcastic remarks about her family.

In retaliation, Tajunnisa threatened her neighbour that she would reveal about her clandestine affairs to everyone in the area. The neighbour, who got furious, decided to take revenge on Tajunnisa.

The complainant alleged that on Friday morning, her neighbour injected a poisonous substance into the milk packets which were lying near her doorstep. Her daughter took the milk packets, boiled the milk and left for work. Later on, Tajunnisa boiled the milk again and gave it to the children.

After drinking the milk, they started vomiting and complained of stomachache. They were rushed to a nearby hospital. The doctors treated the toddlers and concluded that the children suffered from severe food poisoning.

Doctors have ruled that the children are out of danger, police said. The police said that Tajunnisa told them that the children did not eat or drink anything except for milk. She said that the milk packets were kept on the doorstep and that her neighbour might have poisoned the milk. She approached the police and lodged a complaint against her neighbour.

A police officer said, “The milk has been sent for examination and based on the report, further action will be taken. The name of the suspect will be revealed only after her role is confirmed in the act. A case has been registered and investigation is on.”
