UP man sought divorce minutes after wedding

Legendary playwright William Shakespeare’s famous adage ‘All’s well that ends well’ turned out to be true in an Uttar Pradesh district, when a couple had a happy ending after a marriage and divorce in quick succession.

Reports said a few days ago, Saima (name changed), a resident of Bijnore district was divorced by her husband barely a few minutes after marriage, shattering her dreams.

Saima’s hubby divorced her after his demand for a four-wheeler and cash was rejected by her parents. Angry over this, the family of the bride allegedly held the groom, his family and the ‘barat’ (wedding guests) hostage for several hours.

A panchayat was convened to resolve the matter but both sides stuck to their positions. The groom’s family and other guests were allowed to go home after the panchayat’s decision, reports said.

However, after a few days, the ice began to melt when Saima and her ex-hubby came into contact through cell phones. The ex-hubby admitted his mistake and expressed his desire to set things right, reports said.

Though Saima’s family had not yet forgiven her ex-hubby, she had taken a decision. And on Saturday, she quietly left her parents’ home and reached her ex-hubby’s house to live with him forever.

They both approached a local ‘imam’  (priest at mosques), who solemnised their ‘nikah’ (marriage). There was neither the band nor guests. And off course no dowry as well. It was not yet known if Saima’s family has accepted the decision.
“I am sure they will respect my decision and forgive my husband,” an elated Saima said.

The Muslim clerics held that the marriage was ‘legal’ in the eyes of the ‘shariat’ (Islamic laws).
