HDK, DKS spar over power purchase

Energy Minister D K Shivakumar and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, who are also members of a Legislative Assembly committee set up to look into irregularities in power purchase in the State on Monday indulged in a heated argument over disclosing information on the power purchase since 2006 in the State.

The committee held its meeting at the Vidhana Soudha. When Kumaraswamy asked the Energy department officials to furnish all documents on power purchase before the panel, Shivakumar is learnt to have said that all documents cannot be made available as some of them are related to the State Cabinet.

Then, the JD(S) leader is learnt to have said that he has worked as the chief minister and was aware about secrecy to be maintained in the Cabinet. Any document that is yet to be vetted by the Cabinet is considered secret.

Once the Cabinet approves, it becomes public document, he argued. The leaders stuck to their stands and the meeting was wound up abruptly.
